SOME FURTHER HINTS ABOUT SUCCESSFULLY REPRESENTING YOURSELF IN A DIVORCE

Hint 1:  Don’t ask the Clerks about any information that is covered in the general instructions or the instructions on how to fill out your Complaint.  Read ALL instructions first.

Hint 2:  Make sure your proposed Decree or Divorce “mirrors” your Complaint.  In other words, what you ask for in your Complaint, should be reflected in what your Decree says.

Hint 3:  Attend at least one (1) default divorce session in the county you file in.  Try to see how the Judge you’ve been assigned runs his or her “Default Divorce Day.”

Hint 4:  If you are stumped about a legal issue, seek help from a lawyer.  If you cannot afford a lawyer, Legal Aid might be able to help or the Idaho Bar Association might have a pro bono attorney who could help.

Hint 5:  Don’t ask Clerks for legal advice and don’t ask Judges for legal advice.  They are not allowed to give it to you.
