Third Judicial District Administrative District Judge Thomas J. Ryan announced today the selection of John Meienhofer of Boise, Idaho as a Magistrate Judge for Adams County to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge James Peart. Mr. Meienhofer was selected from an original field of eleven (11) applicants and four (4) finalists who were interviewed at a meeting of the Third District Magistrates Commission in Council, Idaho on May 9, 2013.
Mr. Meienhofer received his undergraduate degree from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine and his law degree from the University of Oregon. Mr. Meienhofer comes to the bench with twenty (20) years of experience both in the public and private sectors. He began his legal career in July, 1993 practicing insurance defense with the Brady, Lerma law firm in Boise, Idaho. Beginning in 1994, Mr. Meienhofer spent two (2) years as a deputy prosecuting attorney in Jerome County followed by a year of practice as deputy prosecuting attorney in Blaine County. In 1997, Mr. Meienhofer joined the Finch, Cosho law firm in Boise, Idaho where he practiced in the areas of criminal defense, domestic relations and personal injury law. Mr. Meienhofer opened his own law practice as a single practitioner in October, 1999 where he has maintained a general law practice with emphasis in the areas of criminal defense, domestic relations and personal injury.
Mr. Meienhofer will be relocating to Adams County and will begin his judicial duties on July 1, 2013.
